Cold Fusion beats Fury

Monday, 1 August 2011

The Victorian Fury went down by one goal to the Queensland Fusion in their second game of the 2011 Australian Netball League season at AIS Stadium, Canberra, on Sunday.

The Fury started strong before beginning a goal trade with the Queensland side at about six minutes into the first quarter.

Fusion shooter Candice Adams broke through the deadlock with a two goal lead two minutes from the break, putting the Queenslanders in front 14-12.

The fury went hell for leather in the second quarter, forcing then capitalising on Fusion errors to draw level.
Kathleen Knott and Karyn Bailey shot with accuracy under pressure to give the Fury a two goal lead with four minutes remaining in the quarter.

But the Fusion wasnt finished, with Adams Ameliaranne Wells shooting to level the sides at the break, 24-all.

Wells opened the third quarter with a goal before Knott replied for the Fury.

Fusion then began to impose themselves on the game with their mid court of Jacqui Russell and Laura Scherian getting the upper hand on their opponents.

Fusion opened a lead of seven goals with four minutes to go in the quarter with just one response from the Fury, to lead 40-34 at half time.

New Fury coach Cathy Fellows rallied her troops with immediate effect as the Fury scoring the opening six goals of the third quarter to draw level.

Queensland took a mini break of two goals but the Fury kept fighting back,  Bailey landing some important goals to again level scores with six minutes on the clock.

The Fusion scraped through in the final minute to take the game 51-50.
