Vixens Retain Star Line Up
The Melbourne Vixens will hit the court in their 2010 quest for back to back premierships with their championship starting line up intact.
The Vixens today released their preliminary list of ten, confirming that nine of the twelve of their victorious ANZ Championship winning team had re-signed for 2010. Central to the Vixens’ goal for another premiership win will be 2009 co-captains Sharelle McMahon after claiming the club’s 2009 Best and Fairest Award and Bianca Chatfield, fresh from arthroscopic knee surgery in August.
New to the squad is 21 year old shooter Tegan Caldwell, called up after a successful stint in the victorious Australian 21/U World Youth Cup side. Tegan joined the Vixens after a knee injury rendered promising goalshooter Ashlee Howard unavailable for the 2010 season. Vixens midcourter Sarah Wall has been poached to Queensland Firebirds and English defender Ama Agbeze is rumoured to be joining New Zealand team Central Pulse.
Vixens coach Julie Hoornweg is feeling positive about the Vixens’ prospects for 2010.
“We’re obviously excited to be able to retain our starting seven for 2010, but I guess that’s one of the many advantages that come with being a premiership winning team.
“It’s a fantastic basis to start with, heading into next season when we’ve established ourselves as the team to beat.

“As important as our more established players are, I’m just as excited to retain squad members like Kathleen (Knott) and Brooke (Thompson), as well as being able to introduce some fresh talent like Tegan Caldwell who proved herself with such a successful Under 21 campaign.”
The full list of twelve is due to be released in early November.
