Jason Cup winners in Vixens Scratch Match
The Melbourne Vixens will take on Warrnambool’s St Pius X Primary School on Wednesday 2nd December at the State Netball Hockey Centre.
Members of the Vixens’ ANZ Championship winning team will be primed to take on the undefeated Jason Bedding Cup Champions St Pius, who won the opportunity to play the Vixens following their team’s successful season. The match will be the first media opportunity with Australian Diamonds Sharelle McMahon, Bianca Chatfield, Julie Corletto, Renae Hallinan and Caitlin Thwaites since their return from international touring.
At Saturday’s Netball Australia Awards night, the Vixens claimed four major awards including the Liz Ellis Diamond (Corletto), International Player of the Year (Hallinan), Coach of the Year (Julie Hoornweg) and ANL Player of the Year (Kathleen Knott).
The Vixens are looking forward to taking on the Grade 6 team, and Bianca Chatfield has already determined that they will not be underestimating the young champions.
“We have a lot of our players coming back from injury at the moment, including myself, Julie Corletto and Sharelle McMahon who have all had recent arthroscopes, so we’re already at a bit of a disadvantage.”
“You just never know. St Pius will want to keep their unbeaten record intact, and we are well aware of how far a good dose of self belief can take you”.
St Pius coach Sue Finn said the team was very excited about the opportunity to take on their netball idols.
“We went undefeated throughout the whole season, so we are really looking forward to challenging ourselves and seeing how we match up against the Vixens.
“The girls are absolutely pumped, and we will be throwing everything we have at them!”
This is the inaugural year of the Jason Bedding Cup, which was awarded to the winning team of the Victorian Primary Schools Sports Association (VPSSA) netball tournament held during the 2009 season.
